Miguna Miguna Changes Homecoming Date, to Land in Kenya on January 7th

Deported Kenyan-Canadian lawyer Miguna Miguna says he will return to Kenya earlier than the date he announced last week. 

In a tweet on Thursday night, Miguna indicated that he will land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi on Tuesday, January 7th at 9:25 pm aboard a Lufthansa flight LH 590.

Miguna, a self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general, had last week announced that he will return to the country on Saturday, January 11th but the date was changed to January 7th due to what he termed as “public demand.”

“Homecoming. Birthright, Constitutional rights, and court orders. Change by popular demand. Arrival: Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at 9:25 pm via a Lufthansa flight LH 590,” Miguna tweeted.

Miguna was first deported in February last year days after his arrest over his role in the mock swearing-in of ODM leader Odinga on January 30th, 2018. The immigration department later said that Miguna was in Kenya illegally as he renounced his Kenyan citizenship when acquiring a Canadian passport.

The following month, he attempted to return to Kenya but was banished after spending several hours at the JKIA detention facility.

In December last year, the High Court ruled that Miguna is a Kenyan by birth and holding a Canadian passport does not deny him his birthright. In his ruling, Justice Chacha Mwita declared that the State violated his rights by deporting him and awarded Miguna Sh7.2 million in compensation.
