Raila Wants DP Ruto to Step Down to Pave Way for Lifestyle Audit

John Wanjohi Dec 28, 2019

ODM leader Raila Odinga wants Deputy President William Ruto to step down to the pave way for a probe into the source of his questionable wealth.

Odinga, who spoke during an interview with Citizen TV, said lifestyle audit is key to Kenya’s fight against corruption. Odinga questioned the source of millions of shillings DP Ruto dishes out to delegations that attend meetings at his residence as wells as in church fundraisers.

“Which individual can have such money? You are bringing crowds and crowds of people each and every day slaughtering chicken and paying for their transport, and giving them petty cash, what is the source of such cash?” Raila posed.

“…you have a situation where individuals are moving around with sacks full of money every Sunday looking for harambees to go and donate. Until there is boldness enough to face those people directly and tell them to step aside we do lifestyle audit on you, we are just scratching the surface.”

“We need to hold the bull by its horn, which individual can be having that kind of money to dispense? It is the impunity of the highest order.”

At the same time, Odinga accused DP Ruto of being obsessed with the 2022 presidential election and wondered why he thinks he is the only one who can succeed President Kenyatta.

“There are so many Kenyans who want to be the president of this country in 2022. I do not know who told him he was to be alone. Kenyans will only go for one person in 2022. It is not a reserve of one person or anybody,” said Odinga.
