Miguna Formally Writes to Gov’t over His Tuesday Return to Kenya

Deported lawyer Miguna Miguna has formally written to the government notifying it of his scheduled return to Kenya next week.

In a letter through his lawyer John Khaminwa, Miguna told the government that he will be jetting back into the country on Tuesday, January 7th and wants it to comply with court orders issued by High Court judge Chacha Mwita.

The letter is addressed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) head George Kinoti, Attorney-General Kihara Kariuki, Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai and Director of Immigration Alexander Muteshi. In the letter, Miguna says he will land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi at 9 pm aboard Lufthansa flight LH590.

“We urge you to respectively ensure that the orders delivered by Justice Chacha Mwita are strictly complied with,” reads the letter.

The letter listed 10 orders issued by the judge in December 2018 and which the government should comply with.

“In circumstances, we respectively ask you to ensure you invoke the necessary machinery to ensure Miguna Migunareturns home peacefully after due compliance with the orders of the court,” the letter adds.

In his ruling, Justice Mwita declared that the State violated his rights by deporting him and awarded Miguna Sh7.2 million in compensation. He also ruled that Miguna is a Kenyan by birth and holding a Canadian passport does not deny him his birthright.
