Miguna Miguna Moves to Court Ahead of Tuesday Return to Kenya

John Wanjohi Jan 03, 2020

Deported lawyer Miguna Miguna on Friday filed an application in court seeking to stop the government from interfering with his return to Kenya.

The application was filed at Milimani Law Courts by Miguna’s lawyer John Khaminwa with Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) and Law Society of Kenya (LSK) listed as interested parties in support of his re-entry into the country on January 7th.

Miguna wants the court to allow him to enter the country using his Kenyan identity card or passport that was deposited in the Kenyan High Court registry by the Immigration Department as ordered by the said court.

He also asked the court to direct the registrar of the High Court to release his passport to KNHCR or his attorneys for his identification at the Immigration Department upon his arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday.

Further to this, Miguna wants the court to summon the director of the Immigration Department to explain why they have denied him entry despite several court orders issued by Justice Chacha Mwita.

He also wants reporters from local and international media outlets granted access to JKIA to cover his return.
