Grief engulfed a Mombasa church on Sunday morning after a pastor stabbed his wife during church service before killing himself over an alleged domestic dispute.

Pastor Elisha Misiko of Ground for Jesus Church in Chembani, Bamburi in Mombasa was sitting beside his wife at the pulpit before he unleashed a knife and stabbed her on the back and head. He then committed suicide by slitting his own throat using the same knife, according to eyewitnesses.

Kisauni Police Commander Julius Kiragu confirmed the 10 am incident saying an investigation had been launched. He added that pastor Misiko was found with a 17-page suicide note detailing marital disputes with his wife after the incident.

The pastor allegedly accused his wife of attempting to take over the church ‘he had struggled’ to establish. Pastor Misiko had reported his marriage troubles several times at the Kiembeni Police Station in Kisauni. The two had four children including three sons and a daughter.

The pastor’s wife was rushed to Coast General Hospital where she succumbed to stab wounds while receiving treatment. The bodies of the deceased couple were taken to the Coast General Hospital mortuary.
