MP Moses Kuria to be Charged with Assault
Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria was on Saturday evening released after spending Friday night in police custody.
Kuria, who had been apprehended on Friday morning, was freed from Kilimani Police Station after posting police bond of KSh20,000 and is required to appear before Milimani Law Courts at 8 am on Monday, January 13th to answer to assault charges.
Kuria is accused of assaulting media commentator and activist Joyce Wanja, alias Wagichungumwa on December 8th, 2019, when the two had been invited to Inooro FM Studio to discuss the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
Wanja claimed that Kuria beat her up after she faulted him for making remarks that were deemed “too vulgar” to be uttered in front of children. Kuria and Wanja had attended a fundraiser for orphans in Kiambu County early last month when he uttered the alleged “vulgar statements”.
“Nilichapwa na Moses Kuria tarehe nane mwezi wa December tukiwa kwa jumba la Royal Media Services. Nilikuwa nimeitwa show ya Kiririmbi kudiscuss mambo ya BBI,” Wanja said in a video that went viral on social media and sparked #ArrestMosesKuria hash tag.
“Aliongea maneno ambayo haikuwa inaambatana na event. Tena aliongea ile haifai kuongelewa mbele ya watoto,” she added.
