Embakasi MP Babu Owino, who was arrested on Friday morning for allegedly shooting a DJ at the popular B-Club in Nairobi, has been moved to Gigiri Police Station.

Babu, who is accused of shooting Felix Orinda, alias DJ Evolve on the neck, was transferred to Gigiri Police Station after spending hours at Kilimani Police Station, his lawyer Cliff Ombeta confirmed on Saturday.

“He was transferred to the Gigiri Police Station to avoid the kind of traffic that was here yesterday….people insisting that they want to talk to him…his supporters and everybody because at that point they were interfering with investigations,” Ombeta said.

Ombeta also said detectives carried out a search at Owino’s home in what he believes was an operation to recover ammunition. Babu is said to have shot DJ Evolve at the club at 7 am on Friday morning.

DJ Evolve was rushed to Nairobi Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to remove the bullet that was lodged in his neck. He underwent another operation later to remove a blood clot, according to radio presenter Joe Muchiri.

“DJ Evolve has left a successful surgery. Now we sit tight and wait for the recovery process to begin, it’s not an easy journey especially when nerves are involved. I wish him all the best at this time,” said Muchiri.

CCTV footage shared online shows Babu, who is dressed in an orange t-shirt, smoking what appears like Shisha with an unidentified man and a woman standing beside him.

Babu is then seen drawing a gun and shooting a man, who falls on the floor as other revelers scamper for safety. Shortly after, two unidentified men are seen carrying the victim outside.

In a Facebook post, Babu alleged that there was an exchange of gunfire at the entertainment joint as he was surrounded by what he termed as “a large group of aggressive individuals.”

“…While enjoying the company of my friends at a popular Nairobi restaurant; I was surrounded by a large group of aggressive individuals. In the melee, there was an exchange of gunfire,” Babu wrote.
