A police officer attached to Deputy President William Ruto’s Harambee House Annex office was on Thursday evening found dead in his home in Nairobi.

The lifeless body of the Administration Police (AP) officer, Kipyegon Kinei, 33, was discovered in his house in Imara Daima, Nairobi with a bullet wound in his head.

It is alleged that the deceased was among the five officers on duty on February 13th when former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa visited Ruto’s office flanked by two foreign nationals in the alleged fake military equipment tender worth Sh39 billion, according to The Standard.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the officer may have committed suicide as he left behind a suicide note.

Further reports suggest that he was the only officer out of the five who were on duty on that day that was yet to be grilled by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the fake tender.

DP Ruto’s communications secretary David Mugonyi said the officer last reported to work on Wednesday, February 19th, the same day he was supposed to be questioned by DCI sleuths.
