Hospital Bill of DJ Shot by MP Babu Owino Crosses Sh7 Million

John Wanjohi Feb 21, 2020

The hospital bill of Felix Orinda, alias DJ Evolve who was shot and wounded by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino last month has crossed Sh7 million.

DJ Evolve was shot on the neck on January 17th at B-Club in Nairobi’s Kilimani area and has been receiving medication at The Nairobi Hospital, where he was rushed in critical condition after the incident.

A document obtained from the hospital by K24 Digital shows DJ Evolve’s bill stood at a staggering Sh7.4 million as of Wednesday, February 19th. The bill includes the Sh600,000 paid by MP Babu for his treatment.

Babu was charged with attempted murder but he pleaded not guilty. The court on January 27th released Babu on a cash bail of Sh10 million, paid in four installments of Sh2.5 million each over four months.

Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi said part of the amount would be used to pay for the victim’s treatment while the remaining would act as bail, an order that has since been objected by the prosecution.

Babu also filed an application seeking a review of the Sh10 million cash bail, saying the amount was too high and he would struggle to raise it. The application is yet to be heard.

John Orinda, the father of DJ Evolve said the hospital has been contacting the family asking them to settle the bill that continues to shoot every day.

“We have been receiving calls from the hospital asking us to settle the medical bill. We can’t raise the needed Sh7.5 million even if we were to sell a majority of our property,” he said.

The bill includes Sh1.66 million doctors’ fees, Sh1.34 million pharmacy charges and a nursing fee of Sh900,000.

The medical bill is projected to increase further since the patient is still in critical condition at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU).

“He is unable to speak, and doctors are feeding him through tubes,” said John.
