Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced the confirmation of four new cases of coronavirus in the country.

In a media briefing on Sunday, CS Kagwe said one of the four new patients is Kenyan while the other three are foreign nationals from the United States, Cameroon, and Burkina Faso.

“In the last 24 hours, a total of 69 samples from suspected cases of coronavirus have been analyzed in our various laboratories: out of those we have received confirmation that 4 people have tested positive for the COVID-19 disease,” CS Kagwe announced.

The confirmation of the four cases raises the total number of Covid-19 infections in Kenya to 42. Three of the new cases were recorded in Nairobi and one in Mombasa.

At the same time, CS Kagwe indicated that health officials are currently tracing 1,426 people believed to have come into contact with infected persons. 2,050 other people are in mandatory 14-day quarantine in 14 facilities.

“We are expanding the capacity in counties and asking everybody to think ahead together. This is a Kenyan issue and every Kenyan should be onboard,” said Kagwe.

He further urged Kenyans to continue observing high standards especially regular washing of hands with soap and water and maintaining social distance.

“We have the capacity for at least 1000 beds that we are putting in addition to what we have,” he added.
