MCA Files Impeachment Motion Against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru

John Wanjohi Mar 31, 2020

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru could be removed from office if an impeachment motion against her sails through.

The impeachment motion prepared by Mutira MCA Kinyua Wangui was received by Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker Waweru Gathumbi on Monday and will be formally tabled in the House on Wednesday, April 1st.

MCA Kinyua wants Governor Waiguru impeached on the grounds of gross violation of the Constitution, abuse of office and gross misconduct.

He accuses Waiguru of misappropriating county funds, flouting procurement procedures and undermining the powers of the County Assembly.

In addition, Waiguru is accused of single-handedly making key financial decisions without involving the MCAs, contrary to Section 30 of the County Government Act 2012.

“The governor’s failure to comply with Section 30 (2) (f), (j) and (k) of the County Government Act 2012 not only undermines the power and the authority of the County assembly to offer oversight and approve various developmental plans but also greatly clogs the wheels of the Wanjiku’s oriented development in Kirinyaga County,” the impeachment motion reads in part.

Further to these, Waiguru is accused of irregularly awarding contracts to companies and persons close to her.
