Kenyans Online Irked as China Donates 18 Tonnes of Covid-19 Medical Equipment to Kenya

John Wanjohi Apr 10, 2020

Kenyans on social media have been rattled by reports that China has donated 18 tonnes of medical equipment to the country to aid in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

A China Southern Airlines cargo flight carrying the equipment reportedly landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday morning. The equipment comprising Covid-19 protective gear was donated to Kenya by Chinese companies.

Kenyans online have however ‘rejected’ the donation citing reports of racial discrimination against Africans living in China. Reports indicate that people of African descent have been evicted from their houses and are being denied access to supermarkets, subways and other public places over allegations of spreading Covid-19.

Others questioned the safety of the equipment given that similar donations were allegedly rejected in Canada and the US after they were found to be faulty.

Rosemary Kiraka said: “Free is expensive, we will buy the local ones and support our own”

Alison Favour wondered: “Why are they donating equipment to us, yet evicting our people in their country! They want to finish us! maybe.”

George Njoroge said: “I have heard the same donations were rejected by USA and Canada.”

Keyshia Tabz wrote: “Hypocrisy of the highest order how do you mistreat citizens of a country and give donations to their motherland…. whatever weapon they have fashioned against Kenya it will not prosper, we are covered by the blood of Jesus Christ and we declare it is well…They will be ashamed because God is on our side and He shall deliver us.”
