Deputy President William Ruto Deletes Tweet After Online Backlash

John Wanjohi Apr 14, 2020

Deputy President William Ruto has been forced to delete a video he posted on Twitter on Tuesday morning after he faced online backlash.

DP Ruto shared the video clip showing two police officers fighting over an alleged bribe but later deleted it after Kenyans online branded him a ‘blogger’.

“The issue of the police officer mishandling locals in Marafa was brought to my attention by Magarini MP Michael Kingi and I promptly informed security officers of the same and the IG has acted. The officer will appear in court. We should be civil & humane in handling the public,” DP Ruto tweeted.

In the video, the two policemen are seen arguing after flagging down two motorbike riders who were ferrying sacks of charcoal. The two riders are then seen trying to attack one of the officers who quickly draws his gun.

An argument follows with the cop wearing plain clothes telling his colleague to let the two riders go as he had already received a bribe. The incident allegedly happened in Magarini, Kilifi County.

Before the video was deleted from his timeline, Kenyans on Twitter said DP Ruto had lowered himself to a blogger.

Dnamano tweeted: “You have been reduced to posting videos of what Kenyans go through, just resign bratha 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.”

Kenya West wondered: “Itumbi certain things you leave for news anchors and bloggers to tweet. This is a whole DP’s account tweeting news? SMH.”

Sir Mancini Mancini said: “What is going on here? Why is a whole Deputy President blogging? Where is @OleItumbi . This is Itumbi’s job. Heh! Bwana DP, kweli #Utawezana na blogging?”

Brian Mamboleo noted: “Ruto has once more assigned himself the role government spokesman Cyrus Oguna…ooh!Poor me!”

Echogreen posed: “Wapi free sanitizers to our wanainchi? Wapi masks kwa wale hawawezi afford? Umeongezea madaktari na nurses mshahara? Achana na kazi zenye local police post can deal with! Please.”
