Kenyan Covid-19 Patient Tries to Commit Suicide at Mbagathi Hospital
A Kenyan man suffering from Covid-19 on Sunday, April 26th, attempted to commit suicide at Mbagathi Hospital in Nairobi, according to reports.
The 30-year-old patient was admitted to the hospital’s Covid-19 isolation ward on Saturday, April 25th, and is said to have tried to take away his life after he was informed he would remain at the facility for 14 days, Nairobi News reports.
A police report on the incident indicates that the patient removed a florescent tube in his isolation room, broke it, and used it to cut his throat.
He was rescued by medics attending to patients after they heard him struggle in his room. He was treated and later counseled by a specialist.
“We told him he is young and will recover. We informed him he was not the only one who is sick and that all shall be well,” part of the statement said.
Police officers wearing protective gear visited the scene after the incident.
As of Monday, April 27th, there were 363 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Kenya, 114 recoveries, and 14 deaths.
