Kenya Records Highest Single-Day Covid-19 Cases as Tally Jumps to 830
Kenya has confirmed 49 new cases of Covid-19, the highest number of infections recorded in the country in a single day.
Until Saturday, May 16th, the highest daily increase in the number of new Covid-19 positive cases stood at 45, which was recorded on May 5th.
Addressing the nation from State House on Saturday, President Kenyatta said the 49 new cases raise the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 830.
Kenyatta also announced the passing of five additional Covid-19 patients, bringing the death toll from the illness to 50.
At the same time, 17 patients were discharged from the hospital in the past 24 hours after defeating the infection. This raises the tally of recoveries to 301 while 408 other patients are still admitted to hospitals.
Kenyatta noted that nearly 30 percent of the 50 patients who have succumbed to the illness died at home.
He further said the government is concerned with the increasing number of imported cases of Covid-19 from neighboring countries especially Tanzania and Somalia.
In the last one week, 43 of the cases reported in the country were confirmed in border points such as Wajir (14), Isebania (10), Namanga (16), Lungalunga (2), and Loitoktok (1).
