BBI Reggae Has Not Stopped; It’s on Halftime, Raila Says

John Wanjohi May 17, 2020

ODM leader Raila Odinga insists that his clamor for a constitutional review through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is still alive despite the outbreak of Covid-19.

Odinga, who spoke during the burial of Keroche Breweries Innovations and Strategy Director Tecra Muigai in Naivasha on Saturday, May 16th, said even though the process has been delayed by the pandemic, it will resume immediately after the crisis ends.

“This is a time for us to rise and work together as a people. This resonates very well with the message of building bridges that we have been conveying with President Uhuru Kenyatta and we are sure that this will succeed,” Odinga stated.

He added: “After the corona crisis, we will converge again. Reggae is on halftime. After coronavirus, reggae will continue. Nobody can stop it.”

He also said a committee tasked with reviewing suggestions made by Kenyans across the country is still working and is about to complete its task.

“Wale ambao wanaohusika na yale mapendekezo ambayo yametokana na yale mazungumzo katika taifa letu lote wanaendelea sasa. Wako karibu kumaliza kazi yao,” he noted.

“Kama kwa mchezo wa mpira tunasema half-time ili wachezaji waende kupumzika kidogo. Tunafanya mpango, haya mambo yakiisha tutarudi…tulikuwa karibu kukamilisha…ilikuwa imebaki Nairobi peke yake halafu tulete report.”

At the same time, Odinga divulged that plans are underway to constitute a team of experts drawn from various sectors to come up with ways of resuscitating the country’s economy post the Covid-19 crisis.

“We will need to come up with a post corona strategy of survival and chat on ways on how we will revive our country. This is a crisis but we also understand it offers an opportunity,” he added.
