Kirinyaga MCAs Begin Collecting Signatures to Dissolve County Government

John Wanjohi Jul 14, 2020

The battle between Governor Ann Waiguru and Kirinyaga MCAs has taken a fresh twist.

This comes after the MCAs embarked on a new campaign to collect thousands of signatures in a bid to have the county government dissolved.

The MCAs led by Majority Leader Kamau Murango said the exercise is ongoing in all the 24 Kirinyaga wards and their aim is to collect 60,000 signatures, double the required number.

“We are targeting 60,000 signatures and I have already collected 1,000 from my ward. The collection of these signatures will happen in all the wards in Kirinyaga,” Murango said.

The plan to dissolve the Kirinyaga county government comes weeks after the Senate invalidated the MCAs’ decision to impeach Governor Waiguru.

The Senate ruled that the MCAs failed to substantiate the allegations leveled against Waiguru among them, abuse of office and gross violation of the constitution.

The MCAs have since trimmed the 2020-2021 county budget by 30 percent, a move Waiguru has termed as illegal and an attempt to cripple her administration’s operations.
