US Ambassador Kyle McCarter Dares Kenyan Youth over Graft
US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter took to Twitter on Monday to decry the runaway corruption in the country.
McCarter pointed out that the country loses up to Sh800 billion annually and wondered whether the Kenyan youth is ready to put the practice to an end or will continue perpetuating it once they assume leadership positions.
"Why keep hauling water up a hill if Ksh800 Billion is leaking from the mutungi all the way there? Will youth get in office and continue tradition or have they had enough? This donor [the US] has had enough,” he tweeted.
"Nobody has really answered my question. Will the youth put a stop to this or just join the tradition of thievery? Youth? What do you say? Yes or No?" he posed.
He divulged that the US donates Sh170 billion to Kenya every year to support various projects but some of it ends up benefitting a few greedy individuals. He stated that going forward “we must go from aid to trade.”
His tweet elicited mixed reactions with some online users questioning why the US is still donating money to Kenya while aware the funds will be misused.
