Panic as Kenyatta National Hospital Surgeon with Covid-19 Refuses to Isolate

A surgeon attached to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) is under fire after he allegedly refused to isolate himself after testing positive for Covid-19.

There are fears that he may have infected his colleagues and patients with the virus as he continued interacting with them freely.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the ministry and the health fraternity are disappointed by the medic’s selfish act.

“We are also asking that the health professionals must adhere to what we are saying because we know that there are some who are misbehaving,” Kagwe said.

Kagwe noted that the surgeon insisted on operating on a patient despite knowing his positive status and the danger he was posing to everyone.

“Fortunately, he didn’t because a nurse reported him,” he added.

A total of 634 healthcare workers including nurses, clinical officers, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, and medical doctors have so far been infected with Covid-19 in Kenya.

This represents about three percent of the total number of Covid-19 infections in Kenya, which stood at 19,125 as of Wednesday.
