Kenya’s Immigration Department to Deliver Passports Directly to Successful Applicants

John Wanjohi Aug 01, 2020

The Kenyan Immigration Department is set to start delivering passports to successful applicants at their homes.

This comes after the department inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Posta Kenya that will see passports delivered directly to applicants.

The MoU was signed by Immigration Director-General Alexander Muteshi and Post Master General Dan Kagwe on Thursday.

The move is aimed at reducing congestion at immigration offices, saving time for applicants, and taming the spread of Covid-19. Muteshi noted that the initiative is currently on a pilot and will be rolled out fully starting September 1st.

“Through the initiative, passport applicants will not have to visit our offices to pick ready passports. This will significantly save time for applicants, reduce congestion in our offices, and help in the fight against the spread of Covid-19,” the Immigration Department said on Thursday.

With international flights resuming on August 1st in Kenya, the Immigration Department expects to see a spike in the number of people seeking immigration-related services.
