Passengers from the US Except those in the States of California, Florida and Texas Cleared to Travel to Kenya

Seven more countries have been added to the list of nations cleared for international flights to and from Kenya starting August 1st.

The number of countries whose travelers will be granted entry into Kenya now stands at 18 from the initial 11 announced on Thursday by Transport CS James Macharia.

Kenya will now admit flights from the US except those originating from three states namely; California, Florida, and Texas. Other countries that have been added to the list include the United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Italy.

In a statement on Friday, CS Macharia said the list was reviewed following further “consultation between the Cabinet Secretaries responsible for Transport, Health and Tourism.”

The seven join the other 11 countries cleared on Thursday. They are China, Zimbabwe, South Korea, Japan, Canada, Ethiopia, Switzerland, Rwanda, Uganda, Namibia, and Morocco.

On Thursday, Transport CS James Macharia said the list was made based on the countries’ current Covid-19 status. For a country or territory to be cleared, it must have mild or limited community transmission or declining incidences of Covid-19 infections.

Travelers arriving in Kenya from these nations will be exempted from quarantine as long as they have a PCR-based Covid-19 negative certificate and body temperature not exceeding 37.5°C.

“They should not have a persistent cough, difficulty in breathing, or other flu-like symptoms and must have been tested 96 hours before travel,” Macharia said.

CS Macharia said the list of cleared countries will be updated frequently since the Covid-19 situation is not static.
