Uhuru Sends All Cabinet Members on 11-Day Leave Amid Reports of Looming Reshuffle

John Wanjohi Aug 15, 2020

President Kenyatta has sent all Cabinet Secretaries (CSs), Principal Secretaries (PSs) and Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) on 11-day leave.

The recess period starts on August 17th and ends on August 28th, during which no Cabinet meetings will be held unless otherwise directed by the president.

“…during the working recess, members of the cabinet will still be required to undertake their ministerial portfolio responsibilities and attend to any presidential engagements arising from or ancillary to their ministerial mandate…” Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua said in a memo to all CSs, PSs, and CASs.

“…during the working recess, members of the Cabinet shall be allowed to take leave from office, subject to prior approval of the President and receipt of Presidential clearance with respect to any travel by the member of Cabinet to any destination outside of the territory of the Republic of Kenya…,” he added.

As a result, the next Cabinet meeting chaired by President Kenyatta will be held on September 3rd, a week after the working recess elapses.

The development comes amidst reports of a looming Cabinet reshuffle that could see allies of ODM leader Raila Odinga, Senator Gideon Moi, and Wiper chief Kalonzo Musyoka appointed to government.
