Former MP Danson Mungatana Charged for Defrauding Woman of Sh1 Million
Former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana was on Wednesday arraigned in court to face fraud charges.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Abdul Lorot of Kibera Law Courts, Mungatana, and his co-accused Collins Waweru was charged with conspiracy to defraud a businesswoman of Sh1 million. They also faced separate charges of forgery of documents and obtaining money by false pretense.
The two are accused of falsely obtaining the money from the woman with a promise of helping her secure a Sh70 million supplies tender at the Military Headquarters.
The charge sheet stated that they committed the offenses on August 3rd at Sagret Hotel in Nairobi.
The court heard that after receiving the money from the complainant, the two gave her tender documents for the supply of foodstuff which were later found to be fake.
The two denied the charges and were freed on Sh200,000 cash bail each and the pre-trial set for September 10th.
On Tuesday, their lawyer pleaded with the court to drop the charges, arguing that the accused persons had initiated an out-of-court settlement with the complainant but prosecution opposed the application saying the offenses committed by the two are criminal in nature.
