Kiambu Governor James Nyoro Fires 48 Illiterate County Employees Hired by Waititu
Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has fired 48 county government employees after they were found to be unqualified to hold their positions.
The 48 were members of various municipal boards tasked with implementing multi-billion-shilling projects funded by the World Bank in the county.
“The appointment was done irregularly and most of the members did not qualify for the job,” said Governor Nyoro.
The fired board members were hired by former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, who was impeached early this year over graft allegations.
A senior Kiambu County government official said the firings were done after the World Bank complained that some of the board members could not interpret policy issues to the people they represent.
“There were concerns from the World Bank that most of the municipal board members could not understand and interpret policy issues to the people they claim to represent,” he said.
Reports indicate that most of the fired officials were either school dropouts or did not go beyond primary school education.
“We sat down after the issue was raised and realized that the problem was their level of education,” the source close to Governor Nyoro told Daily Nation.
“We noticed that most of them had no post-primary education and dropped out of school in Standard Seven yet they were part of the committee that decides on multi-billion projects funded by the World Bank,” he added.
