Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi to Spend 2 More Nights in Police Cell

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi will spend two more days in police custody awaiting a ruling on his bail application.

Sudi, who is accused of hate speech and incitement, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Josphat Kalo of Nakuru law courts on Monday following his arrest on Sunday.

The prosecution requested the court to allow police to detain him for 14 days pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter. They argued that more time is needed to trace and interview several witnesses they intend to use in the case.

Sudi is facing charges of hate speech, assault of a police officer, offensive conduct, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and resisting arrest.

Sudi was arrested over the alleged inciting and abusive remarks directed at President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family, which he made on September 7th.

Magistrate Kalo directed Sudi be detained at Nakuru Central police station pending a ruling on the prosecution’s application on Wednesday.

Sudi’s attorneys led by Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei and Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen opposed the prosecution’s application and urged the court to release the accused on bail.
