DCI Head George Kinoti Wants Kakamega Senator Malala Charged over False Assassination Claims
Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti wants Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala arrested and charged over false assassination claims.
Malala broke down in tears in the Senate on September 14th as he narrated how he was receiving death threats and being trailed by suspected assassins.
“I am a young father and husband… It is very disheartening for people to sit in a corner and think they can take my life. I humbly request this committee and the Inspector General of Police to take note that I have said time and again my life is in danger,” Malala told Senate’s National Security Committee.
“It is sad to walk in the streets of Kakamega and Kenya knowing I could be dead the next day.”
He alleged that a secret, and specialized squad unit code-named ‘Bravo Zulu Yankee’ had been formed to trail and possibly eliminate him.
This prompted the Senate Committee to order the Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to beef up his security.
But appearing before the Senate Committee on Wednesday, DCI head Kinoti said investigations revealed Malala’s claims are false and ill-intended.
He said the Senator failed to provide the investigating officers with phone numbers and photos of the alleged members of the hit squad that was allegedly after him.
“… based on evidence on record we find that allegations by Senator Cleophas Wakhungu Malala are untrue, malicious, false and ill-intended and therefore urge this committee to order the author of these allegations be charged with the offense of giving false information,” said Kinoti.
Kinoti added that the allegations by Senator Malala amounted to character assassination of members of the Special Service Unit.
“In the absence of this the officers’ morale, confidence and inspiration will be greatly injured on the basis that they were not fairly treated,” Kinoti added.
