Uhuru Has Not Complained About My Performance, DP William Ruto Hits Back at Critics

John Wanjohi Sep 30, 2020

Deputy President William Ruto has responded to his critics who accused him of absconding his duties after he skipped Monday’s Covid-19 conference presided over by President Kenyatta.

Ruto had been invited to attend the conference held at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi with the program indicating that he was set to speak before inviting the president to address the meeting.

He did not show up and the seat reserved for him next to the president’s sitting place remained unoccupied with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i taking up the role of inviting Uhuru to the podium.

Ruto’s decision to boycott the meeting sparked mixed reactions with some leaders rebuking him for absconding his duties.

Speaking at his Karen residence on Wednesday, Ruto dismissed those questioning his work as busybodies, stating that he has diligently executed his role as the principal assistant to the President. He added that all the duties and responsibilities assigned to him by the President have been discharged with distinction.

“No work has been given to me and I failed to execute,” he said. “Who are they to complain about my work? Who made them my supervisors?”

Ruto further wondered why his critics are questioning his performance yet his boss, President Kenyatta has never complained.

“My boss has not complained about my performance,” he said, adding that he understands his work.
