Inspector-General of Police Orders Probe into Kenol Political Chaos That Left Two People Dead

John Wanjohi Oct 04, 2020

Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has formed a taskforce to probe Sunday’s chaos in Kenol, Murang’a county.

The ugly fracas which erupted ahead of Deputy President William Ruto’s visit to the area led to the death of two people while scores others were wounded. DP Ruto had been invited to Kenol AIPCA Church for the fundraiser.

Mutyambai ordered the Director of Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and two senior Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.

At the same time, Mutyambai warned political leaders against making reckless utterances, saying tough actions will be taken against them.

The clash pitted a group of youth supporting President Kenyatta against DP Ruto’s loyalists. Police officers used tear gas to disperse rowdy youths.

There are reports that some youths were hired by politicians to cause chaos with leaders allied to DP Ruto and President Kenyatta blaming each other for the unfortunate incident.
