There was joy in Kakamega County after four siblings graduated with master’s degrees while one graduated with a diploma on the same day.

The five, including three brothers and two sisters, were among the 5,000 graduands who graduated during the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) 35th graduation ceremony held virtually on Friday.

They are Absalom Adega (42), Ruth Agoi (38), Paul Agoi (36), Esther Agoi (33), and Seth Agoi.

Their dad Francis Agoi, a retired primary school teacher, attributed his children’s success to hard work and focus.

Agoi said the five were inspired by his elder daughter, Faith Loice who graduated with a Ph.D. in Human Resource in 2016.

“When my daughter graduated with Ph.D., I was very happy, I pulled her aside and urged her to convince the younger siblings to get out of their comfort zones and go back to school,” Agoi said.

Adega graduated with Masters in Business Administration in Strategic Management, Paul graduated with Masters in Business Administration, Esther with a Master in Science (Project Management) while Seth graduated with Masters in Procurement and Logistics. Ruth was conferred with a Diploma in Community Development.

It also emerged that Agoi’s other daughter, Rebecca would have graduated alongside her siblings but she did complete her research work on time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Computer Science.
