Kenyan Woman Charged for Spiking Man's Drink Before Stealing Sh1.7 Million from His Bank Account
A 24-year-old woman was on Wednesday arraigned in court for allegedly drugging and stealing from a reveler.
Beatrice Mueni Mbiu appeared before Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo of Shanzu Law Courts.
She pleaded not guilty to charges of stealing Sh1.7 million and a mobile phone worth Sh30,000 after spiking her victim’s drink at a club in Nyali, Mombasa.
The court heard that the accused administered a stupefying drug on Richard Nyasamba Wanyonyi while hanging out at the joint before stealing from him on September 8th, 2020.
Wanyonyi was enjoying his drink when Mueni and two other ladies believed to be her accomplices in the racket joined him.
The victim told police that he started experiencing difficulty in breathing before he became unconscious.
“It was after I became unconscious that Mueni stole my phone and managed to transfer Sh1.7 million from my bank account,” he said.
The three were caught on CCTV committing the crime and Mueni was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on November 28th. The other two suspects are still at large.
Mueni was released on a cash bail of Sh1 million pending the hearing of the case. The hearing starts on January 25th, 2021.
