Nairobi Governor Race: Thirdway Alliance Unveils Miguna Miguna's Running Mate
Thirdway Alliance party has picked Angela Mwikali as lawyer Miguna Miguna’s running mate in the Nairobi gubernatorial race.
Mwikali was unveiled on Thursday by Thirdway Alliance National Elections Nomination Board which is chaired by Crispus Wathimba.
Addressing journalists in Nairobi, Wathimba said Miguna will soon return to the country to lead his campaigns and urged Kenyans to ignore remarks made by ousted Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot.
“Do not ask me when or how Miguna will come but he will be in the country soon. We expect the government to obey court orders that were issued allowing him to return,” he said.
Mwikali, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Nairobi, said Nairobi residents have an opportunity to correct the mistakes they made at the ballot in 2013 and 2017.
“Miguna and I have the competence to fight cartels and gangs that have derailed development in Nairobi,” said Mwikali.
She added: “We have been planning and strategizing virtually but he [Miguna] will soon be in the country to join me in the campaign trail. The general will be back home to clean up Nairobi.”
Mwikali unsuccessfully contested for the Embakasi South Parliamentary seat during the April 5th, 2019 by-election, which was won by Julius Mawathe of Wiper.
Thirdway Alliance this week submitted Miguna’s name to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for clearance. If he is cleared, Miguna who was deported to Canada in 2018 will fly the party’s flag in the Nairobi gubernatorial by-election slated for February 18th.
