Son of US-Based Man Whose Family Was Wiped Out in Kiambu Helps Police Recover Murder Weapons

Homicide detectives have recovered murder weapons believed to have been used in the killing of five people in Kiambu County on Tuesday.

On Saturday afternoon, the prime suspect in the macabre killings, Lawrence Simon Warunge led officers to the spot where he disposed of the murder weapons. 

This came hours after he was arrested from his hideout in Lower Kabete in connection with the murder of his father, mother, brother, cousin, and the family’s farmhand at their home in Kagongo Karura village, Kiambaa, Kiambu County.

In a statement on Saturday night, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Lawrence led officers to a pit latrine in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County where the murder weapons and other key exhibits were recovered.

“The items will be crucial in placing the author of the heinous crime at the center of the killings,” the DCI noted.

“Meanwhile, the recovered items will be subjected to further forensic analysis at the DCI Forensic Lab, to provide a watertight case for the prosecution, once presented in court.”

Lawrence, a student at Mt Kenya University, is the eldest son of 55-year-old Nicholas Njoroge Warunge, the US-based nurse who was murdered in cold blood alongside his wife Anne Wanjiku, their son Christian Njenga (13), nephew Maxwell Njenga (13), and casual laborer James Kinyanjui (40).

The lifeless body of Njoroge was found lying within his compound on Wednesday morning while his wife, son, and nephew were found murdered inside their house. The dismembered body of their casual laborer was found in a neighboring compound.

Njoroge who arrived in the country on December 4th to spend the Christmas holiday with his family was stabbed 34 times and his throat slit.
