Government to Put Up 1,500 Affordable Houses in Murang'a
The government has acquired 38 acres of land in Murang’a for the construction of over 1,500 affordable houses.
The housing units will be built under a joint venture between the national and Murang’a county governments and is part of President Kenyatta’s affordable housing project.
Some of the houses will be put up on a 34-acre parcel of land in Kabati and others on four acres at Makenji along the Nairobi-Nyeri highway.
Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria and Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga last week visited the two sites ahead of the commissioning of the project within 90 days.
"We hope to have completed the first phase of the project before the end of next year," said wa Iria.
Governor wa Iria also revealed plans to build more housing units in Murang’a town targeting national and county government workers.
On his part, PS Hinga challenged other county governments to follow suit and identify sites where low-cost houses can be put up.
