Delink My Name from BBI Process, Raila Tells Mt Kenya Residents
ODM leader Raila Odinga has appealed to residents of the Mt Kenya region to rally behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Speaking during an interview on Kameme TV on Monday, Odinga noted that the Mt Kenya region will benefit the most if BBI sails through.
While insisting that BBI is not about him or President Kenyatta, he called on the people of Mt. Kenya not to reject the initiative just because they have a problem with him. “Opportunities have wings, if they are not taken, they fly away. I appeal to the region to remove Raila in BBI and see the gains it seeks to introduce in that region,” Raila said.
Raila used the interview to clarify that BBI is about the country’s future, and has nothing to do with his future political ambitions.
"BBI is not about me, it’s for a better Kenya which entails bringing stability and a peaceful working environment for any Kenyan without tribe or ethnicity," Odinga added.
Raila also downplayed claims by Deputy President William Ruto that his handshake with President Kenyatta is to blame for the Jubilee government’s failures, saying that the pact restored peace and stability in the country.
"Those claiming that the handshake stopped Jubilee government from performing its mandate are dreaming, the country was in chaos following the aftermath of 2017 general elections, the country experienced tension and economic sabotage when our supporters resisted some products from some companies but things resumed when we greeted each other," he stated.
