Martha Karua's 'Linda Katiba Movement' Launches Anti-BBI Campaign
A lobby group dubbed Linda Katiba Movement has unveiled a campaign against the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Led by Nark-Kenya leader Martha Karua, the group wants Kenyans to reject attempts to amend the 2010 Constitution through BBI, a brainchild of President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
On Monday, the movement launched a website where Kenyans can sign up to oppose the plan to introduce changes to the constitution.
"We are calling for the full implementation of the 2010 Constitution, which has been vandalized, abused, cannibalized, and destroyed," Karua said during a media briefing in Nairobi.
She added that Kenyans have the power to defeat the selfish plans of the political elite.
"We are the majority, some 50 million Kenyans. Do not show us the five million signatures you collected," said Karua.
On his part, economist David Ndii warned Kenyans that they risk finding themselves where they were before the introduction of multi-party democracy in 1992 if they fail to reject BBI.
"There is a hidden agenda in the BBI. Our 2010 Constitution is being dismantled as we watch, " Ndii said.
Activist Jerotich Seii asked Kenyans not to allow a few leaders to change the law to suit their selfish interests.
"Join us. Let us form a mighty army to defeat these people," she urged Kenyans.
The lobby said it will use the website to mobilize Kenyans to reject BBI, in addition to organizing meetings with activists and other like-minded people to champion the same.
