Police Hunt for MCA Accused of Supplying Weapons to Bandits

John Wanjohi Feb 07, 2021

Police have launched a manhunt for a Marsabit MCA accused of supplying weapons to bandits who have been terrorizing area residents.

Uran Ward MCA Halkano Konsa allegedly went into hiding following the arrest of four suspects by police from the Border Patrol Unit (PDU) on Saturday.

The officers were on a targeted patrol in Funa Qumbi when they spotted a suspicious Marsabit county government vehicle and upon its interception, it was established that two of the four occupants were Marsabit county government employees.

One of the county officials was in possession of an AK-47 rifle loaded with ten rounds of 7.62mm caliber special.

Police believe the county government van registration number 10CG016A has been supplying arms, ammunition, and ration to warring factions in the war-torn Turbi-Isiolo border.

The vehicle was under the control of MCA Konsa, who went underground after its seizing, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“Meanwhile, the suspects will be presented before the court on Monday, February 8th, while the riffle will be subjected to ballistic examination by our ballistic experts and adduced as an exhibit in court during the trial,” the DCI said.
