Senator Irungu Kang'ata Removed as Senate Majority Whip
Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has been removed as the Senate Majority Whip.
He was stripped of the position following a parliamentary group meeting held at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Speaking during a press briefing at KICC, Jubilee secretary-general Raphael Tuju said Kang’ata, who will be replaced by Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, was axed on various grounds chief among them a breach of confidential matters.
“Senator Kang’ata has tried to give the impression that the reason why he’s being released of his responsibility has something to do with the letter he wrote the president which is not the case. Whatever opinions he had to make were within his rights as a member of the Jubilee party but how he did it was wrong. He should realize that there is decorum, there are ways of dealing with these issues when you want to talk to the leadership of the party, especially if the party official involved is the President,” said Tuju.
He added: “His biggest failure as far as leadership is concerned was discussing private matters with other parties. You don’t kiss and tell. It is that breach of confidentiality that has made his position untenable.”
Kang’ata took over the position in May 2020 following the ouster of Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika.
