Ruto Speaks out After Uhuru Dared Him to Resign
Deputy President William Ruto has spoken out hours after President Kenyatta dared him to resign for fighting the government from within.
Uhuru said it was hypocritical for Ruto to claim that the Jubilee government has failed and, at the same time, take credit for its projects.
“On one hand he [Ruto] is saying the government has failed and on the other hand he is saying we as a government has done this and that development. That is doublespeak, you can’t be speaking of the failures of a government where you serve while at the same time outlining what you refer to as we have achieved as a government. You better resign,” Uhuru said in Uthiru on Friday.
In a rejoinder, Ruto appeared to accuse Uhuru of betrayal, noting that he supported and stood with him when he needed a friend in the run-up to the 2013 presidential election.
“When Uhuru needed a friend to stand with him, when no one else wanted to support him because of the ICC cases, or because his father was president, or because he came from Mt. Kenya, I was the one who did,” Ruto said.
Ruto, who spoke in Kiambaa, Kiambu County during a fundraiser to empower boda-boda riders in the region, further insisted that he is the best candidate to succeed President Kenyatta in 2022.
“Because Uhuru is retiring, who is the best person to finish the good work that we began? Is it Ruto of the Kitendawili person?” Ruto posed.
