National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi Installed as Mt Kenya Spokesperson
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has been installed as Mt. Kenya region spokesperson.
Muturi was installed by Njuri Ncheke elders in an elaborate ceremony held at their shrines in Nchiru, Meru County on Saturday, according to The Star.
During the ceremony attended by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, Muturi was given the green light to run for president in 2022.
He becomes the fifth leader to be coronated by Njuri Ncheke after Kenya’s first President Jomo Kenyatta, retired President Mwai Kibaki, President Uhuru, and Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi.
Muturi, 64, is among leaders who have been touted as possible successors of President Kenyatta as Mt. Kenya region’s kingpin.
Also in the mix is Governors Mwangi wa Iria (Murang’a) and Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), CS Munya, former CS Mwangi Kiunjuri, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, and former presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth.
With his second and final term expiring next year, President Kenyatta is expected to hang his political boots, paving the way for a new kingpin in the vote-rich Mt. Kenya region.
