KCPE Candidate Dies Shortly After Giving Birth
A Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidate on Tuesday died shortly after giving birth at a hospital in Nyandarua County.
Nyandarua County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo said the Pesi Primary School pupil succumbed to excessive bleeding at Nyahururu County Referral Hospital.
The girl had arrived at the examination center on Tuesday morning ready to sit for the Science paper when she began experiencing labor pains.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she successfully delivered a baby boy at around 10 am but she started bleeding profusely.
The teenager was then taken to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital in an ambulance together with the infant, who reportedly developed breathing complications.
Unfortunately, she died at the hospital after losing too much blood. The deceased’s body was transferred to the hospital’s morgue pending autopsy.
The newborn was placed in an incubator at the same facility.
At least 1.1 million candidates are sitting for this year’s KCPE examination, which commenced on Monday and will conclude on Wednesday.
