Homicide detectives have exhumed the body of a 66-year-old man who was allegedly murdered and secretly buried by his son.

The remains of businessman Henry Maina Muthangu were dug up from a shallow grave in Mwiruti village, Laikipia County by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Muthangu was allegedly murdered by his 44-year-old son Jackson Nderitu, with the motive of inheriting his property.

Neighbors watched in dismay as a team led chief government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor exhumed the body of a man they believed was out of town for business.

The exhumation followed the arrest and interrogation of Nderitu, who is in police custody pending further investigations and arraignment.

A post-mortem examination on the body of Muthangu will be carried out on Monday to establish the actual cause of his death.

Area Chief Patrick Mahinda urged children to respect the property of their parents and work hard to accumulate their own wealth.
