Suspect Whose Car Got Stuck in the Mud While Dumping Lover’s Body in Juja Arrested
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the gruesome murder of his lover.
Evans Karani was nabbed on Friday in Githurai, Kiambu County, two days after the body of his lover Catherine Nyokabi, 25, was discovered inside a saloon car in Witeithie area of Juja.
Juja DCIO Richard Mwaura said the suspect’s car got stuck in the mud along Bob Harris Road in Juja while ferrying Nyokabi’s body to an unidentified destination after torturing and killing her. The suspect abandoned the vehicle in the mud with Nyokabi’s body still inside.
“Nyokabi’s body had been burnt using a corrosive chemical. It appears she was tortured before being killed,” said Mwaura.
Police used the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) database to retrieve the abandoned car’s ownership details.
A joint team comprising officers from the DCI, police, and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) launched a search for Karani and traced his mobile phone signal to Githurai Kimbo where he was arrested.
Upon interrogation, the suspect, who is married, told police that his clandestine relationship with Nyokabi was going south in the run-up to the murder.
He is being held at Juja police station pending further investigations and arraignment.
