Raila Raises Alarm over Increased Cases Love-Related Homicides
ODM leader Raila Odinga has weighed in on the recent spike in cases of gender-based violence in Kenya.
Through his social media pages on Tuesday, Odinga raised alarm over the increased cases of love-related murders and called for a candid discussion on gender-based violence.
“It is unfortunate that after winning their partner’s heart, instead of going on to cherish and love them, some suddenly turn physical, and at times horrifically end up killing them. Too many lives are being lost on an almost daily basis going by media reports,” Odinga wrote.
He added: “This scourge must come to an end. The abnormality of these murders cannot become the normal No! If you cannot reconcile, then, leave and let live. We need an urgent candid discussion on #GenderBasedViolence as a Nation.”
Incidents of domestic violence have been on the rise in recent months, with the latest case being that of 38-year-old Kiambu businessman Evans Karani, who is accused of killing his estranged lover Catherine Nyokabi, 25.
The suspect allegedly confessed he strangled the deceased, a mother of one, with a belt before attempting to dump her body in a bush in Juja.
