Kenyan Woman Arrested for Using Fake Papers to Secure Top Job at a Government Agency
A former employee of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) has been arrested for allegedly forging her academic certificates.
Lilian Akoth Ochieng, a former Assistant Supply Chain Management officer at REREC, was arrested by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Monday following an investigation that commenced in 2018.
Investigations established that she forged her Diploma in Management Purchasing and Supplies and her certificate in Purchasing and Supplies Management to secure a job at the State agency.
Her arrest comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji gave the EACC the go-ahead to initiate criminal proceedings against her.
Akoth is set to be arraigned in a Kisumu court on Tuesday to face various charges among them forgery, uttering false documents, providing false information, and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
