Four People Killed by Raging Floods in Nairobi
Four people died after they were swept away by floods in Nairobi’s Kibra area following heavy rains in the city on Thursday night.
The four were reportedly swept away while trying to cross Mutuine River from Lang’ata to Kibra slums on motorcycles.
Confirming the incident, Kibra sub-county Commissioner Gideon Ombongi said one motorbike was retrieved on Friday morning.
He indicated that a joint team has been mobilized to search and retrieve the bodies of the four victims, who are suspected to have been swept to the Nairobi dam.
Ombongi urged residents living along the river to move away to avoid more loss of lives as heavy rain is expected.
The raging floods were occasioned by the heavy downpour that continues to pound the city and many parts of the country.
On Friday, Kenya Power announced an outage in several parts of Nairobi due to floods.
The utility company said the outage was a result of flooding in the Nairobi West Substation on Thursday night.
Affected areas include Nairobi West, South C, parts of Langata Road, parts of Mbagathi Way, Dam Estate, Civil Servants Estate, Five Star Estate, parts of Lower Hill, and environs.
