Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have rescued a Nairobi businesswoman who was kidnapped on June 15th.

Hafsa Mohamed Lukman, 23, was found in a dingy room at the Matopeni area within Nairobi’s Kayole estate on Sunday morning.

DCI said the woman, who was last been seen at her shoe shop in Kamukunji on Tuesday evening, had been forced to fit in a small water tank.

She had been abducted by a criminal gang that was demanding Sh5 million ransom in exchange for her freedom.

In a video clip recorded by the kidnappers after her disappearance, Hafsa begged her family to pay the amount for her life to be spared.

She was rescued following an elaborate operation conducted by detectives from Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau and the Special Service Unit.

Hafsa, who had visible bruises on her face and hands, was rushed to the hospital for medical attention shortly after her rescue.

During the operation, a 24-year-old suspect believed to be a member of the kidnap gang was arrested and is being interrogated to shed more light on the kidnapping and help in the arrest of his accomplices.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is issuing a stern warning to any persons harboring the intention of committing such a heinous crime, that no efforts shall be spared in their pursuit,” DCI said.
