Kenya Receives 358,000 Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine from Denmark
Denmark has donated 358,000 doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to Kenya.
A plane carrying the consignment is expected to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday night.
The arrival of the doses comes at a time when the country is experiencing a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines, with many healthcare and other frontline workers yet to receive their second shots.
Kenya started inoculating its population in March after receiving one million doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX initiative.
The second phase of immunization was delayed after India, which is dealing with a massive outbreak of COVID-19, suspended vaccine exports to vaccinate its population first.
As of Monday, Kenya had vaccinated a total of 1,183,376 people across the country. 995,012 have received their first dose while 188,364 have been fully vaccinated.
Among those who have been fully vaccinated are 51,691 healthcare workers, 51,135 people aged 58 years and above, 21,701 teachers, and 13,733 security officers.
Kenya has recorded a total of 179,293 positive cases of COVID-19 and 3,461 deaths.
