KBC News Anchor Shiksha Arora Mugged in Nairobi CBD in Broad Daylight

John Wanjohi Jun 22, 2021

Media personality Shiksha Arora has narrated how she was mugged in Nairobi CBD in broad daylight.

Through Twitter on Tuesday, the news anchor said the incident occurred at around 5:20 pm at Globe Roundabout as she drove to work on Monday.

“Guy one knocked my side mirror bending it backwards and walked away. While I was rolling down my window slightly to reposition the mirror, the second guy started banging the front seat passenger window loudly,” Arora wrote.

“As I was looking to my left guy 3 slid his hand in through my window and unlocked my car, got into the back seat. Grabbed my purse & asked for my phone, at this point in time I was in panic mode, couldn’t say anything. He asked for it again & reached for my neck, strangling me.”

“As he was strangling my neck, I desperately gasped for air, I started hooting loudly to get some attention hoping somebody would help me. People started getting out of their cars and that’s when he let go and fled. He went with my purse but I am traumatized that he attacked me.”

Arora, who just joined Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) this week, said the thugs work in teams and warned motorists against rolling down their windows during peak traffic.

“I got lucky, he didn’t manage to hurt me much despite strangling my neck and getting away with my purse. I am okay but traumatized,” she said.

Following the incident, Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai vowed to crack down on the muggers.

“I have taken note of insecurity within CBD. Action will be taken and security enhanced,” he tweeted.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) urged members of the public who may fall or have fallen victims of mugging within Nairobi CBD to make formal reports at the Nairobi Central DCI offices.

“While many victims take to social media to have been arrested along various Streets and Walks within the CBD, as the few who report at the station fail to pursue their cases or never turn up for hearings,” said DCI.
