Senior DCI Officer Collapses and Dies at Colleague’s Farewell Party in Nairobi

John Wanjohi Jul 04, 2021

A senior officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has died under mysterious circumstances.

Chief Inspector Anne Wanjiru Waiganjo is reported to have collapsed at a colleague’s farewell party at Baita Restaurant in Upperhill, Nairobi on Saturday.

A police report on the incident indicates that Wanjiru was rushed to Nairobi Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“The body is lying at the same facility awaiting to be transferred to Kenyatta University Mortuary,” the report reads in part.

Wanjiru, who was the head of the Karen DCI office, was fighting accusations of bigamy—the offense of marrying someone else while legally married. The offense attracts a prison sentence of up to five years.

She refuted these allegations, saying that the alleged first marriage had never existed.

The two officers Wanjiru was alleged to be involved with were identified as Inspector David Murimi, and Prison Officer David Mbitu.
