Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi Arrested over Assault Allegations

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has been arrested over assault allegations.

Havi was picked from his office in Nairobi on Tuesday and driven to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices for questioning, according to LSK Vice-President Carolyne Kamende.

He is accused of assaulting beleaguered LSK CEO CEO Mercy Wambua at the society’s offices along Gitanga Road in Nairobi on Monday.

Accompanied by her lawyer Steve Ogolla, Wambua recorded a statement on the incident at Muthangari police station on Monday.

She claims Havi attacked her at the LSK boardroom where she was scheduled to have a meeting.

Havi refuted these allegations, saying that Wambua forced her way into the boardroom while they were having a meeting.

He blamed Wambua for interrupting an ongoing meeting at the boardroom with an intention of eavesdropping and secretly recording the proceedings.

Last year, LSK suspended Wambua over gross misconduct but was later reinstated by the society's Council after the vote to have her removed failed to garner a two-thirds majority.
